Dobokki and Cauliflower Curry.

Every once in a while I have to get a little taste of DC.

Thank goodness I have international roommates! Today we finally had some time together (even though we had to schedule it a week in advance) and they taught me how to cook food from their cultures.  I'm not sure if I'd be able to recreate it, but it sure was yummy.

(Me and Sutton, the girl we visit teach.  She's actually from the DC area!)

Yubin, who is from Korea, cooked Dobokki (don't know if I'm spelling that right).  Basically, it's a concoction with fish cakes cut into little piece, rice cakes that are super doughy, and lots and lots of red pepper seasoning (hence the milk in the picture.  My mouth was on fire.).

(Manju and Yubin)

Manju, who is from Nepal, made cauliflower curry.  It had all sorts of vegetables, but mainly cauliflower, mixed in with the yellow curry.  We ate that with rice and boy was it tasty.

All those international spices just felt like home.

A Girl's Apartment

You know you live in a girl's apartment when...

...this is in your bathroom...

...and kitchen...

...and living room.

I promise we're not obsessed.  We've just had three engaged roommates, and haven't gotten around to throwing all of these magazines away yet (cough, cough).

Roomies

Here are the reasons why they are so great:

Back massage trains
Sing-alongs
"Sistahhhhs!"
Making dinner for each other every night
Late night talks
Frequent ice cream runs
"I'm goin' to BoJangles!"
Squeeling (intentional or not)
California Girls
That one craft night
"Ethel, you shameless....!"
Writing human development papers
Getting a ride to work every morning
Lights on Temple Square
Planning a wedding
MASH
Teenage Dream
General Conference (we're late!)
Papa Murphy's
"Here's a little something to wear...."
Nursing Home Performances
Girl Talk
The Chocolate
And lots of laughing.

Bath Time

I think it's interesting how the name of the shampoo used by each of my roommates kind of reflects their personality. I won't say to whom they belong, but here's the list:

"Tousle Me Softly"

"Sleek"

"Hello Hydration"

(By the way, wouldn't it be a great job to think of shampoo names?
"Tousle Me Softly"-now that's catchy.)

Waking Up In the Morning

As some of you may know, I'm not exactly what you'd call a morning person. Some days it's hard to get out of bed and other days its harder to get out of bed. Today was one of those. Luckily, I have an awesome roommate to help me with that. So, this morning I was still asleep when I heard Tegan's alarm (which is the radio) go off. It sounded like a song by the Carpenters and it just kept playing. I thought maybe she was sleeping through it, so I cracked an eye open. Nope. She wasn't sleeping. She was sitting up in her bed, dancing. It's funny now, but as I said, I'm not a morning person, so I groaned, "Teeeeeg," and pulled my blanket up. As she turned it off she said, "Sorry, that's just one of my favorite songs," and started to sing it. I just bit my tongue and prayed that she'd stop, which eventually she did. I went back to sleep, only to wake up to my alarm five minutes later. Ahhh, mornings.

Easter at Nana's

It is so nice to have family close by so that I can spend holidays with them. Yesterday, for Easter, my Aunt Donna picked Tegan, Kelli, and me up to go to Nana's for the day. Uncle Vedel, Aunt Jan, and Anna came over for a delicious dinner, then we just spent a couple hours at the house. For dinner we had funeral potatoes, ham, corn, salad, rolls, and pumpkin pie filling. We were so full by the time we were done eating that we hardly fit in our clothes, so Donna brought out three skirts with elastic waists. They look good, huh? After dinner we went outside because the weather is beautiful, and so I could show off the swingset and pole on the front porch. I showed Tegan and Kelli how to swing around it, which is always an adventure in a skirt. Here are the videos of each of us.

How fun! Thanks Nana and Donna for a wonderful Easter.

Roommate Laughter

I think this video is a good introduction to all of my roommates. But it needs a little explanation first. 1. Supposedly, when you lay down, cross your arms, and have someone push on them, your true laugh comes out. 2. We're in college and 18 years old. 3. It was late. :)
